Evaluación del bienestar animal en vacas lecheras de la región Sureste del estado de Hidalgo aplicando el protocolo Welfare Quality

Como resultado de la vinculación con el Cuerpo Académico en Producción Animal de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo que cultiva la LGAC de Bienestar Animal en Animales de Producción, se trabajó en el proyecto “Evaluación del Bienestar en Vacas de Hatos Lecheros en los Estados de Hidalgo y México” propuesto por la Dra. María Guadalupe Torres Cardona. Este proyecto obtuvo el primer lugar en el concurso Promotores de Bienestar Animal otorgado por World Animal Protection. De esta colaboración conjunta, se formó a un estudiante de Maestría bajo mi dirección y se publico un artículo científico.El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el grado de bienestar de vacas lecheras aplicando el protocolo propuesto por Welfare Quality® (WQ®) en unidades de producción, de los municipios de Tulancingo, Metepec, Acatlán y Cuautepec en la región sureste del estado de Hidalgo, México. Las unidades se enmarcan en un sistema de producción familiar. El trabajo de campo se realizó en los meses de enero a mayo del 2014. El protocolo utilizado evalúa indicadores fiables, validados y medibles que convergen en un sistema ordenado de aplicación y análisis para evitar interpretaciones antropomorfistas, y son aplicables a cualquier sistema de producción, cuyos resultados permiten priorizar las acciones correctivas a fin de mejorar el grado de bienestar y por ende la producción. La aplicación del protocolo consistió en la evaluación de 29 medidas, 12 criterios y 4 principios para obtener una clasificación final en términos de Excelente, Buena, Aceptable y No clasificada; estos resultados se corroboraron con el simulador de WQ®. El protocolo fue aplicado a 1,187 vacas distribuidas en 52 unidades de producción (UP) con un promedio de 23 animales de tipo Holstein, de las cuales 48 realizaban ordeño manual y 4 mecánico, con un promedio de producción de 16 L/día. En 22 UP se estimó que las vacas pastorean por más de 6 horas por día y en 30, menos de 6 horas. Los resultados mostraron que el total de las UP obtuvieron la clasificación final de Aceptable, lo que indica un grado mínimo de bienestar y muestra la urgencia de mejorar las condiciones de vida de las vacas lecheras; la calificación obtenida para cada principio (en escala de 0 a 100) fue: para el P 1 (alimentación adecuada) 32 puntos; para el P 2 (alojamiento adecuado) 42 puntos; para el P 3 (salud adecuada) 23 puntos y para el P 4 (comportamiento adecuado) 28 puntos. Ninguno de estos valores rebasa la media de la escala. En la evaluación de WQ®, las medidas son las que aportan la información que puntualiza los aspectos que deterioran el bienestar y resalta aquellos positivos, tal es el caso de cojeras graves donde sólo se encontró 0.16% de vacas afectadas siendo este un valor bajo; en cuanto a suciedad de patas, ubres y flancos mostraron valores superiores al 70% en todos ellos, valores inadecuados e inherentes al sistema de producción. Dos medidas que sobresalen por su gravedad son mortalidad (4.70%) y distocias (14.9%), en ambos casos marcados en el protocolo como situaciones graves. La aplicabilidad al 100% del protocolo en este tipo de unidades de producción no es posible, obedeciendo sin duda a su origen dadas las necesidades de la realidad europea; sin embargo, puede ser utilizado como una herramienta útil para valorar el bienestar animal de las vacas lecheras en el sistema de producción a baja escala en el altiplano mexicano.Proyecto financiado por Fundación Hidalgo Produce A. Piecewise smooth stationary Euler flows with compact support via overdetermined boundary problems

We construct new stationary weak solutions of the 3D Euler equation with compact support. The solutions, which are piecewise smooth and discontinuous across a surface, are axisymmetric with swirl. The range of solutions we find is different from, and larger than, the family of smooth stationary solutions recently obtained by Gavrilov and Constantin-La-Vicol; in particular, these solutions are not localizable. A key step in the proof is the construction of solutions to an overdetermined elliptic boundary value problem where one prescribes both Dirichlet and (nonconstant) Neumann data

Nuevos datos y documentos acerca de Airón, dios prerromano de los pozos

En este artículo se analiza el estado de la cuestión, con respecto al conocimiento que se tenía del dios prerromano Airón, con anterioridad a la publicación del libro Airón. Dios prerromano de Hispania por el autor del artículo. Se informa sobre la doble identidad de Airón, dios del inframundo (donde habita la muerte) y también de la vida que emerge del mismo. Se hace un análisis de la pervivencia de dicho dios en la toponimia y en el folclore, haciendo mención expresa del famoso romance Ya se van los siete hermanos. Además, se añaden datos posteriores al libro, con nuevos poemas y el hallazgo de otros 8 pozos Airón más en la geografía española, pozos que se describen y que, sumados a los anteriores, dan un total de 67 topónimos Airón.The author of this article analyzes the state of the matter concerning the knowledge of the pre-Roman god Airón, before the release of the book Airón. Pre-Roman god of Hispania. The article focuses on Airón´s double identity: god of the underworld (where death dwells) and god of life, which stems from him. Attention is paid to how this god’s influence is reflected in toponymy and folklore. Particular mention is made of the popular romance Ya se van los siete hermanos (The seven brothers are already leaving). Some additional data, subsequent to the publication of the book, are also included, showing new poems and stressing the finding of eight more of Airón´s wells in Spain. Adding these to already documented sites give a total of 67 places named after Airón

Nuestro estudio tiene como objeto mostrar el vilipendio y difamación que ha afligido al género femenino desde la Antiguedad Tardía hasta la Edad Moderna mediante la consulta de fuentes literarias, de caracter moralizante, mitográfico y poético. Por otra parte, hemos pretendido ejemplificar dicha desaprobación con la exposición de una serie de pinturas y grabados pertenecientes a la misma época, conformando así, una simbiosis entre Literatura e Historia del Arte que nos surten de una profusa información para comprender e interiorizar el escarnio al que fue sometido la Mujer en siglos pasados.Our study aims to show the vilification and defamation suffered by the female genre from Late Antiquity to the Modern Age through the consultation of literary sources, moralizing, mythological and poetic. On the other hand, we have tried to exemplify this disapproval with the exhibition of a series of paintings and engravings from the same period, thus forming a symbiosis between Literature and the History of Art that provide us with a profuse information to understand and internalize the mockery to which the Woman was subjected in past centuries

A reading strategies-based course to improve reading comprehension in ninth graders at Institución Educativa John F. Kennedy of Soledad

The present proposal reports the needs analysis, the design of a reading course, and its partial application as well. Moreover, the evaluation of the impact of the reading course in students´ language learning processes to develop reading competences in ninth graders at Institución Educativa John F. Kennedy (IEJFK) of Soledad, Atlántico (Col). The application of needs analysis was carried out through questionnaires in order to gather information from the context in terms of strengths and constraints. This way, this stage was focused on the analysis and interpretation of the data. As a result, this process showed evidences of the low-level use of reading strategies of students at Institución Educativa John F. Kennedy and the effect on their level of reading competence. For these reasons, these findings were the points of departure for the present proposal. The findings of the needs analysis process were the grounds for the construction of the reading course based on reading strategies in order to improve their reading comprehension levels. In form of a pedagogical intervention with the purpose to instruct students with a chosen set of reading strategies for help students to surpass their difficulties in reading comprehension. This way, the aim of the present proposal was impacting the necessity of having a set of reading strategies to face the written material in their academic and working life. The present study followed the action research approach for developing of the inquiry. Concerning the outcomes of the project, students developed use and practice on a set of reading strategies to interpret and analyze a text. Also, they developed certain degree of consciousness over the importance of reading strategies to improve their reading competence levels

Student Training for Motor Performance Assessment in Industry

Energy used by electric motors in the USA According to the US Department of Energy [1], electric motors consume more than 50 percent of all electrical energy in the USA and more than 85 percent of industrial production electrical energy [2]. Furthermore, during the estimated life of an electric motor, approximately 20 years, its initial purchase price is less than 2 percent of the total cost of owning and operating it [3]. 2- The main objective of this work is to share our experience of training university students for performing electric motors energy assessments to local industries with a limited set of instruments: a tachometer, an AC multimeter, and a power meter endowed with two AC probes [4] Instead of acquiring detailed information about the state of the motor, like torque- angular speed characteristics, we aim to determine the electric motor load. Any deviations from the rated motor load would cause the electric motor to spend additional energy[3]. The input power to the motor is measured from parameters taken from hand-held instruments and compared to the power required when the motor operates at rated capacity. In our laboratory, three testing methods [5] have been applied to determine the state of operation of a testing motor loaded with a prony brake. These are: 1- Direct input power measurements with the two-wattmeter configuration 2- Line current measurements 3- The slip method The outcome of this method is the actual motor efficiency. The next step would be to recommend replacing the standard motor with high or premium efficiency motors 3- Integration of the Lab experience into courses These hand-on experiments have been integrated into an undergraduate elective course ELEE 4372 Electric Machines, now taught during the Fall 2021 semester to 15 students. At the end of this course, students will complete a survey rating the class. Additionally, at the end of every test, students will respond to a questionnaire. Questions will be posed to receive students feedback on the contribution of the experiment to their knowledge base, their interest in the subject, and the appropriateness of the tools and workspace under which they worked. 4- In conclusion, we have found that after the students complete these practices, they will be prepared to make assessments of motor performance and write recommendations that will lead to energy savings, for the industries
